Emotional Risk – lowly Football clubs

Psychologists wondered why Football fans spend years, 40 years say, watching a lowly football team, following them week by week. – When the only highlight in 40 years is the one year they win a promotion to the next league up. Most of the time there is hope of success that is disappointed. But the fan still goes week after week to watch their team. Why invest so much time they wondered with so little reward?

So they investigated it. What they found out was that people did it for the emotional risk. The risk of disappointment. The high of those hopeful moments. The way that a great goal can make up for 90 minutes of a dreary match.  I think I get it. 🙂
