  1. Good Evening Mr Toms,

God its nearly 30 yrs since i used to write to you about Football Manager on the ZX Spectrum. I used to buy every version that came out and you used to send me an advanced copy to feedback comments on gameplay and bugs before release. I even remember when the Head Coach NFL game came out which was similar to the addictive gameplay in FM.

To this day i have kept all my ZX81, ZX Spectrum, Megadrive and cassette games all neatly boxed. I was <20yrs old but now i'm 48 in October and still play games on my PS3 and PC.

I miss not getting those letters and games in the post from your company Addictive Games but it still holds great memories from my childhood as an avid Chelsea fan that i could test the latest FM games before release.

Maybe i could meet you one day and even try any of your new football / sports games that might be developed. Having come across your blog and Telegraph article i am so pleased to learn of your cult status as you are the original inventor of the soccer computer game for sure.

I look forward to hearing from you soon,

    Kind Regards,

    John Hooley

    1. What can i say except that is really great to receive a comment like that. Thank John

  2. Mr Toms.
    What a legend!
I had your ZX81 game! Yep – the original!
I have managed to make a few apps using Objective-C but its a horrible horrible language to use, in my opinion.
I am now up to speed writing my first iPad app using GLBasic instead – which cross compiles to Objective-C and in my opinion is better than Corona. I hope your iPhone game is doing well and look forward to it – but how about an old school rewrite of the original onto the iPad – using something like GLBasic compiler as the tool would make this quite easy compared to taking the Objective-C route – just my thoughts on development matters. Whatever – I look forward to new products from you and regularly check this page.

    1. Thank you. Incidentally, Objective-C does get easier. I found it strange at first, but now it comes naturally. The latest change in the SDK, which eliminated the manual memory management (ARC) brings it closer to languages like Java. Memory management in Objective-C is a headache for most people new to it.
